Leadership through the lens of Moxie
Recently, I had to make one of those decisions that doesn't show up in leadership books. The kind that keeps you awake at 3 AM, questioning whether you're doing the right thing.
It reminded me that real leadership often lives in these gray areas - where there often isn't a clear "right" answer. As I’m talking to some awesome leaders ready for the launch of my podcast Moxie Moments in the new year, I’m thinking about all this through the lens of Moxie.
💭 Because leadership isn't about having all the answers. It's about being curious and showing up authentically, even when (especially when) things get messy. It's about acknowledging that while we carry titles like "COO" or "Director," we're all human, wrestling with choices that impact real lives.
Like many of you, recently I've had to let go of talented people, choose between equally valid but competing priorities, and make unpopular decisions to protect long-term stability.
Each time, my own scars and stories influenced how I approached these moments. That's why self-awareness in leadership is crucial - understanding how our experiences shape our decisions, without letting them dictate.
✨ True leadership Moxie means:
- Having the courage to make tough calls while maintaining empathy
- Knowing when to share our vulnerabilities and when to provide strength
- Building spaces where both growth and grace can coexist
Sometimes the bravest thing we can do is acknowledge that we're all figuring it out together. That way we can be strong, decisive, and compassionate.
